Nutrition is truly the foundation to our health. Our body tells us through hunger pains when it needs different nutrients to maintain regular body function. When we put the right things into our body, our mind gets the signal that we are satiated. We feel satiated when our bodies have what they need to facilitate the reactions that allow us to perform our activities, fight off infections, and ultimately heal. In this way, putting the right foods into our bodies, diminishes cravings for foods that we really don't need. Specific nutrients are depleted by certain lifestyles or health conditions, this understanding allows your health care practitioner to formulate and establish the right eating habits for each individual.
Herbal Medicine is a powerful medicine that can be used to treat a variety of health concerns. Herbs have been modified for use in pharmaceutical drugs for some time now. Constituents, or active components, of herbs have been isolated for their ability to induce change on a cellular level in the body. When we use the whole plant, we get more of a synergistic effect, with less potential to cause harm. Although potential for side effects, overdosing or toxicity is much less than with use of their pharmaceutical distant cousins, whole herbs are still powerful and need to be used responsibly. Herbs are excellent for digestive issues, hormone balancing, immune support and many other concerns. There are different methods of preparing herbs that allow for varying potency, prioritization of components extracted for specific purpose, as well as cost modification. Methods of preparation include poultices, healing salves, teas/infusions, and tinctures.
Acupuncture uses fine needles to activate channels of energy beneath the surface of the skin, and improve blood flow. It's strengths lie in the ability to reduce pain and inflammation, and treat a variety of physical ailments. Points on the body are chosen to target specific organ systems, improving function and the ability to work synergistically with other organ systems.
Naturopaths are trained to understand the physical body, and all aspects of our health that Impact It. In looking at physical health, specifically pain and injuries, we take a well rounded approach to ensure the body is able to be restored to optimal function. I often use trigger point therapy to address muscular pain and tension, and also have additional training In prolotherapy and PRP to address injuries to tendons and ligaments. Often pain management, and injury rehabilitation benefit from a combination of these regenerative treatments.
From a naturopathic perspective, the quality of our skin is a reflection of the internal environment. In addressing aesthetic concerns, we will uncover which aspects of your health are contributing to your current state. This may look like better stress management, proper nutrition, or hormone balance. In addition to this, we have a variety of tools to help stimulate the body’s own ability to regenerate healthier skin and tissues, such as microneedling, and PRF injections. Once we have established this solid foundation, we can assess where treatments such as botox and fillers, can fill in any leftover gaps… or fine lines ;)
